Carlos Moya eliminates Croatia Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka
Stanislas Wawrinka the defending Croatian Open champion was defeated my Carlos Moya, 6-3, 6-3, ins Tuesdays first-round match.
“I am very pleased with my form” stated the 6th seed Moya. The four-time tournament champion is trying to building on his recent form after reaching his fourth straight quarterfinal last week in Amersfoort, Neatherlands.
Moya may have a better change to win the Croatian open without the looming threat of Rafael Nadal, who defeated him in the french Open quater finals.
The Spaniard remains confident of victory and his record at this open speaks for itself. First winning in 1996 and then triumphing for 3 years in 2001 through untill 2003, moya has a record of 39 wins and 8 losses in Umag.
In other results Ivan Ljubicic lost to Romania’s Andrei Pavel, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
David Ferrer, who is seeded fourth, defeated fellow counrtyman Albert Montanes 6-2, 6-2.
Wild card enrty, Croatian Roko Karanusic was beaten by the 2004 winner, Argentina’s Guillermo Canas,6-3, 6-3.
Lukas Dlouhy lost to Filippo Volandri, 6-3, 6-1, the No.7 seed advancing through the next round as well.
