Maria Sharapova' Semi-final At French Open
Ana Ivanova was ruthless in her 6-2 6-1 French Open Semi-final destruction of Maria Sharapova.
The tall 6 ft 2” Sharapova’s game is patterned on her strong ground strokes and serve but Sharapova admits she has never felt comfortable on clay.
Sharapova had hoped her big-match experience and ninth major semi would give her an edge over Ana Ivanovic playing her first but Ivanovic neutralized Sharapova’s power and kept her on the run.
Sharapova had 25 unforced errors to 11 for Ivanovic and hit only four baseline winners. A sore shoulder hampered Sharapova’s play and while she was able to overcome the players in her early matches she struggled against Ivanovic.
Maria Sharapova is committed to her career because it enables her to enjoy the rewards it brings. Each day that means four, five, or six hours of practice. Few people knew Sharapova when she was growing up because her single-minded practice regime and mainly home schooling left little opportunity for contact with others. Tennis beauty Maria Sharapova’s earnings and endorsements make her the highest paid woman athlete in the world.
