Venus Williams hits form at 31 beating Maria Sharapova after being inspired by Serena

Russian tennis sensation Maria Sharapova’s fans were in for disappointment as the 20 year-old was sent crashing out of the womens’ singles by Venus Williams in the 4th round of Wimbledon 2007. Williams beat Sharapova 6-1, 6-3.
The Wimbledon 2007 23rd seed Venus Williams made a mockery of her seeding as she demolished Maria Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon champion and the number two seed. Venus Williams was in total command and looked free of injuries as she clinched a confidence boosting 6-1, 6-3 victory in a centre court match that lasted nearly 90 minutes. Venus has won Wimbledon thrice before the last in 2005.
